What You Didn't Know About The Obamas
from the first lady that almost was to a law license misconception today we look at what you didn't know about the Obama's number eight more than 25 years together they may have spent eight years together in office but the Obamas have accomplished an equally commendable task in a marriage that's lasted more than a quarter of a century aside from their political work from the White House Barack and Michelle are responsible for a couple Grammys multiple best-selling books and even a Nobel Peace Prize among other thing now in the years following their roles at the forefront of the United States the Obamas are still hard at work
Michelle's new memoir the coming is expected out in November of 2018 together they have a deal in the works with Netflix for a series focused on promoting diversity and understanding and Barak continues to act as a diplomat of sorts meeting with foreign leaders in attempts to improve relations with the United States but how did they get here what struggles to the endure on their journey from a small law firm in Chicago to eight years of the White House it all had to start somewhere and some of it is bound to surprise number seven the would-be first lady everyone knows the Obamas the iconic couple that America got acquainted with over the course of two presidential terms as for some become the modern beacon for the positives of marital partnership but despite their supposed fairytale romance this union almost income to be in the late 1980s Barack Obama lived in Chicago as a community organizer having finished his schooling at Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in political science there he had worked with colleagues to try to lift up inner city Chicago but he also met a woman Sheila Miyoshi Yeager is a woman of Dutch and Japanese ancestry and Barack Obama's former sweetheart not even in their mid-20s Yeager and Obama had a young look and as it goes with young love weren't entirely well-versed with concepts of logic maturity and Trust Yeager described their relationship as isolated as Obama kept his professional aspirations and colleagues separate from personal matters that's always keeping a piece of his life hid
but their relationship continued to flourish as they made mutual friends travelled to meet her family and tiptoe their talks towards marriage but then in 1986 Obama asked for Yeager's hand in marriage
fear and she was much too young to be making the decision and after the hessed of her mother Yeager turned him down the two remained together but something would soon change for Obama Yeager says he became so very ambitious beginning in 1987 having re set his focus on the presidency with a sense of destiny researchers believe Obama's perceived calling was closely related to his notion that to succeed he would need to align his way of living with what it meant to be african-american he had presented himself early on in his career as a quintessential example of multiculturalism but as time went on he more often identified as distinctly African American and for African American politicians in cities like Chicago a non black significant other could have lasting political
consequences from constituents various African American politicians have attested from personal experience the interracial marriages can have a very real restrictive effect on one's political career this subject became a major divisive point in their
relationship and the arguments over the matter became so common that they began to boil over in front of guests by the time Obama was getting ready to head off to Harvard Law School and Yaeger was ready to begin her dissertation research in Seoul South Korea Obama asked her to marry him once more already at the breaking point and salted at being asked to delay her own future to accompany him on his journey instead she rejected his offer and the two parted ways they would see each other briefly again at Harvard in the early 90s but by then Obama was already dating Michelle Robinson an associate at a Chicago law firm number six law firm romance ever go to help train the new guy at work only to fall in love get married then go on to shake up Washington DC as a first African American presidential couple us either but that's more or less what Michelle Robinson did when she was assigned to play a mentor to the newly hired Barack Obama upon completing her first year as an associate with corporate law firm Sidley Austin Michelle had decided to buckle down and focus on her new career and lead the dating scene at the wayside then she was assigned to mentor the new summer associate having are a creative buzz with his work at the Harvard Law Review as an editor and his acceptance to the firm
as a first-year student the whole office babbled with excitement upon his arrival but Michelle wasn't impressed she wrote him off initially as another
good-looking smooth talking guy who had to be too good to be true on top of that as to of maybe a half dozen black employees at the company and of course her position being above him she thought dating him would be tacky but despite resisting his initial advances out of self-consciousness Michelle and Barack would go on to enjoy their fabled first date not long after his coming to work at the firm a night which has gone on to inspire the major motion picture southside with you
fast-forward to 1991 while celebrating his passing the bar exam Barack proposed Michelle and the future first couple truly began their journey to the White House number five Michelle's caution toward politics some people yearn for attention are born to be under the spotlight and even thrive when subjected to public scrutiny and yet others would prefer to live their lives in peace and quiet
such was the difference between the presidential power couple when the Obamas first began their ascent up the political summit before Barack's run for office in the House of Representatives Michelle was asked what she enjoyed about campaigning by her boss after deep contemplation she replied that busy and semi homes on the campaign trail and inspired some new living room decor she wanted to try finding only the most shallow the joys in this work
Michelle was weary of the intense scrutiny that would inevitably come following election and she was an intensely private person to be despite her apprehension Michelle continued to support her husband's campaigns even though the strain grew dire as the size of their family would start to increase number four the brink of collapse everything may seem hunky-dory at a cursory look at the former first family's relationship but the Obamas haven't always been as mutually supportive and their partnership as they appear today a period in the year 2000 as detailed in the book reading the making of a president saw a perfect storm of domestic issues within the Obama household coming off a failed Democratic primary run against former Black Panther Bobby Rush the Obamas were in a rough spot credit cards were maxed both first time parents were stressed with two-year-old Malia and to top it off Barak had ruffled feathers with a Democratic National Convention this meant that when he went to Los Angeles in 2000 scraping up enough money to buy the cheapest plane ticket he could find he traveled across the country only to find he had been excluded from the guest list the entire trip was a mess as he found he couldn't rent a car on arrival because his card was declined and the luck only worsened after the convention with bouncers refusing to even let him into the after parties Michelle was near her breaking point back home with another child on the way she began to find politics to be a waste of time urging Barack to focus on the family's financial needs still the couple persisted remaining heavily involved with politics despite these familiar pressures and within eight years they moved into the White House number three Michelle's sacrifice before taking on the responsibilities of being America's first lady Michelle Obama had an excellent career as previously mentioned she began working as an associate for the law firm of Sydney in Austin following her graduation from law school in 1991 she became an assistant to the mayor and worked as the assistant commissioner of planning and development in Chicago she went to work for a nonprofit organization two years later called Public Allies here she became the executive director of the Chicago office for four years and set fundraising records that lasted more than a decade after she left she developed the University of Chicago's community service center as the associate dean of student services before going to work for University of Chicago Hospitals as an executive director of Community Affairs in 2002 from here she built up to the position of vice president for community and external affairs in 2005 and began earning a salary of more than $300,000 this was start to drop however in subsequent years as her husband began his campaign for the presidency due the time she dedicated to the campaign trail Michelle was only receiving a third of her highest earnings by 2007 taking her widespread experience and sacrificing the six-figure salary she had built up to Michelle officially left her position to focus on the election in 2008 number 2 law-license controversy though the Obamas may have met at a law firm they have long since stopped practicing law but what does that entail exactly well it's apparently a topic of debate as in January of 2010 a rumor began to spread digitally claiming that both Barack and Michelle had given up their law licenses voluntarily the assertion here was that voluntarily suspending or surrendering one's law license as a practice employed by guilty parties with no other option now what it is the Obamas we're supposed to have been guilty of isn't exactly clarified and the reasons for which the first couple should still be active practicing lawyers aren't really explained neither regardless the surrendering of a law license is fairly common despite the claims of the river to maintain a law license not only our annual fees required but also mandatory classes to update license holders with any modernisations in the ever-changing US legal system so really any non practicing lawyers that don't
voluntarily surrender their law license which can be reactivated at any time are pretty much just wasting time and money number one finding your own Obama romance making it through the trials and tribulations the haters and the hard times the successes and shortcomings the Obama's did it together whether you like them or not their loyalty to each other is a fairly commendable characteristic a team through and through Barack and Michelle have said they are often asked about their relationship and how to find a powerful romantic partnership like they have in response to a reporter's inquiries over similar information Barack said there were three important questions to ask yourself when dating someone and deciding if they are the do you find them interesting do they make you laugh will they make a good parent if you answered yes to all those then according to Barack and Michelle they just might be the one which first couple do you find most interesting why let us know in the comment section below
