Unbelievable Animals That Saved Human Lives!

From man’s best friend to an unexpected hero, here are unbelievable animals that saved human lives:

 9.

Toby The Golden Retriever Our first animal superhero is a dog named Toby.

He saved his owner from a terrible fate back in 2007.

They say “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but that just wasn’t the case for Debbie Parkhurst.

She decided to snack on one of the tasty fruits while she was at home with her best friend Toby keeping her company.

As she was eating, a chunk of apple got stuck in her windpipe.

She later noted, “It was lodged pretty tight because I couldn’t breathe.

I tried to do the thing where you lean over a chair and give yourself the Heimlich, but it didn’t work.”

 That’s when Toby stepped in.

Parkhurst added that she started pounding on her chest, which got his attention.

She stated, “The next thing I know, Toby’s up on his hind feet and he’s got his front paws on my shoulders.

He pushed me to the ground, and once I was on my back, he began jumping up and down on my chest.”

Her golden retriever’s actions managed to unwedge the apple.

She recalled, “As soon as I started breathing, he stopped and began licking my face, as if to keep me from passing out.” After her friend arrived, Parkhurst was driven to the doctor.

The doctor allegedly told her that without Toby, she wouldn’t have made it, and Debbie noted even further, “I literally have paw-print-shaped bruises on my chest.

I’m still a little hoarse, but otherwise, I’m okay.”

 Bulwark Bear

About seven years ago, a bear came to the rescue of a man named Robert Biggs while he was hiking in northern California.

He was busy reading a bear and her cub and had no clue that a mountain lion was stalking him all the while.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, Biggs said, “He grabbed me from behind and knocked me to the ground.

 I was on my knees.

I had my rock pick out because I was on a steep incline, and I smashed the cat in the head with it.

He screamed, but he didn’t let go.” He noted that the pick and backpack were his only lines of defense against the giant cat.

Biggs tried to take another shot at the animal, and he recalled, “That’s when a blur on my left side grabbed the lion by its throat - turns out it was the momma bear.

I heard a tremendous screeching, some growling noises.”

The mother bear tore the cat away from Biggs and took it down.

He added, “I’m one hundred percent sure it did want to save my life.

 We made eye contact.

I’d seen the bears before and I know she knew who I was.”

 7.

 The Mandys

Back in 2002, an Australian man named Noel Osborne was working on his farm when a cow pushed him over, and he landed in a pile of manure.

Being seventy-eight years old at the time, Osborne was in bad condition after suffering a broken hip from the fall.

He couldn’t move and was stuck outside, enduring sizzling days, freezing nights, and some storms.

Luckily, his animals came to his rescue.

Osborne’s collie, Mandy, and his goat, also named Mandy, laid next to him to keep him warm during the nights.

The lactating nanny goat allowed him to drink her milk to stay alive.

He was there for five days while his animal friends kept him warm.

Finally, a couple of people came by to pick up another goat and found Osborne stranded in the manure.

They called an ambulance in the nick of time.

He later credited the two Mandys for saving his life.

 6.

 Willie The Parrot

This heroic bird saved a two-year-old girl from certain doom in 2009.

A woman named Megan Howard was reading the toddler, Hannah, when a babysitter’s worst nightmare became a reality.

Luckily, Howard’s parrot, Willie, was there to save the day.

She later told CBS, “While I was in the bathroom, Willie started screaming like I’d never heard him scream before and he started flapping his wings.

Then he started saying ‘Mama baby’ over and over and over again until I came out and looked at Hannah and Hannah’s face was turning blue because she was choking on her Pop-Tart.” She then rushed over to the little girl and did the Heimlich maneuver, which saved her life.

Howard noted, “If [Willie hadn’t] warned me, I probably wouldn’t have come out of the bathroom in time because she was already turning blue, her lips were blue and everything.” 5.

Kerry Gold The Horse Quite some time ago in Scotland, a woman named Fiona Boyd almost met her maker after her husband asked her to move a cow and her calf out of the paddock on their farm.

Boyd left some potatoes cooking on the stove in her kitchen because she didn’t think she’d be gone for long.

However, she never would’ve guessed what happened next.

As she was walking the creatures to a different area, the baby became confused and started hollering.

Its mom turned immediately defensive and struck Boyd in her left side, knocking her on the ground.

After that, the mother cow refused to let Boyd get to her feet and kept pushing her down using her head.

Then, the cow straddled her to keep her on the ground.

Boyd recalled that at that point, there was nothing else she could do but assume the fetal position and protect her neck with her arms.

Luckily, Boyd’s horse, Kerry Gold, heard the commotion and rushed over to save her.

Boyd noted, “[she] galloped over and started kicking the cow with her back hooves.

Recognizing I was in trouble, she continued to lash out at the cow as I crawled away to safety under the electric fence.” She added, “We rewarded Kerry Gold with extra apples and carrots, and she continued to protect me, and anyone else who entered her field, by walking along beside them like a bodyguard.”

 4.

 Rescue Dolphins

Dolphins have come to the rescue of people on a couple of different occasions.

Back in 2007, a surfer named Todd Endris got into a sticky situation with a shark.

A great white came out of the blue abyss and struck him three times.

It ripped the skin off of his back and bit his right leg down to the bone.

After seeing the incident, a group of dolphins swam over, forming a barrier around Todd and helped him get to shore.

Another similar instance happened in 2002.

A fisherman in Australia, Grant Dickson, was doing his job when his trawler flipped over in the rough waters.

He was bleeding quite a bit and was forced to hold onto an overturned dinghy.

The blood attracted a group of sharks that stalked him until some dolphins intervened, frightening the predators, which ultimately fled.

However, it wasn’t until about forty hours later that Dickson was rescued by the crew of a cruise ship.

 3.

 Saving Whale

Around the beginning of 2018, a woman named Nan Hauser was doing what she’d been doing for twenty-eight years prior: diving with and researching whales.

She is a biologist and is head of the Center for Cetacean Research and Conservation.

However, during this particular dive, she experienced something brand new.

She was pushed by a humpback whale for about ten minutes toward the surface of the water.

Hauser was obviously concerned, noting later, “I was prepared to lose my life.

I thought he was going to hit me and break my bones.”

But, the whale merely tucked her beneath his pectoral fin and brought her out of the water using his back.

After emerging, she noticed that there was another creature swimming in the area, a tiger shark.

Hauser watched the footage later on and determined that the whale was actually trying to save her from an untimely demise.

She recalled, “Maybe the shark wasn’t going to attack me, but [the whale] was trying to save my life.”

 2.

 Jambo The Gorilla

This story happened a long time ago in 1986, but a man named Levan Merritt remembers it like it was yesterday.

He was five years old when he was visiting the zoo with his parents and siblings.

They walked over to the gorilla enclosure.

Levan proceeded to climb up on the wall to try and see the creatures a little better.

 But, this didn’t end well.

He slipped and fell into the pit, which was about twenty feet down.

He broke his arm and fractured his skull when he hit the cement.

After being knocked out from the impact, Levan was on the ground showing no signs of movement.

Luckily, Jambo was there to help him out.

Jambo was a seven-foot-tall silverback gorilla, and he decided to protect Levan.

He reached out to rub the child’s back and formed a barrier between him and the other gorillas in the enclosure.

When Levan became conscious, he started crying, which made Jambo nervous, and he ran away.

The boy was then rescued and airlifted to the hospital.

Levan recalled thirty years later, “It was only the next day we saw what had happened.

One of the nurses had seen it on breakfast TV and asked us, ‘Have you seen this?’ knowing that we were the family who had been involved… to be honest, I couldn’t actually believe what I was seeing… I am forever thankful to Jambo as obviously it could have gone one or two ways.

It was amazing how he protected me in that way.”

 1.

 Lulu The Pig

One of the last animals you’d expect to come to the rescue is a potbelly pig; but, Lulu did just that in 1998.

About a year before, Jo Ann Altsman and her husband babysat their daughter’s pet pig.

They grew a strong bond and ended up becoming the animal’s permanent owners.

Jo Ann had a heart attack in August 1998, and her husband was out of town, unable to help her.

She tried everything she could to call for help, even tossing an alarm clock out of her window to try and get the attention of somebody outside.

Unfortunately, nothing worked, and she was stuck on the ground after collapsing.

Jo Ann’s dog was barking, but even that wasn’t enough for anyone to notice.

That was when Lulu stepped in.

She pushed her way out of the yard and tore her skin by doing so.

Once she got to the road, she played dead.

Soon after, a driver stopped to check out Lulu’s wounds.

When he stopped, Lulu popped up and brought him back to Jo Ann.

The man called an ambulance, and she made it to the hospital.

The doctors later told her that if it had been just fifteen minutes later, she wouldn’t have survived.

Have you or anyone you know been helped by an animal?
