10 REALISTIC WAYS THE WORLD CAN END
whether it's global economic collapse apocalyptic natural disasters or even aliens you name it and hollywood has made a blockbuster film about it sometimes truth is stranger than fiction so what are some plausible and even likely ways the world can end welcome to fact nominal and today we're getting apocalyptic in 10 realistic ways the world can end hit that subscribe button if you're not already on board and get ready to have your mind blown it's a fact more than 99 of all forms of life that have ever called the earth home are extinct take a minute to let that sink in there have been five major extinction level events that we know of an ice age a global flood a global drop in oxygen a worldwide chain of volcanic eruptions and finally the 45 000 mile per hour meteor strike that wiped out the dinosaurs and left the crater more than 120 miles wide with human development causing the premature extinction of so many species today there's a good argument that we are headed towards a sixth cataclysmic event if a demise is inevitable what might be the causes 10. getting hot in here the obvious and most likely way for mankind to meet its doom is ironically by our own hand the advent of the industrial age has spewed forth carbon-containing greenhouse gases eroding our protective ozone layer making extreme weather well more extreme the polar ice caps are melting sea temperatures and levels are rising deserts are experiencing longer and longer periods of drought and little to no rain this cascade of events will cause widespread famine as ecosystems eventually lose the fight to keep up with demand the result political instability economic collapse and the end of civilization as we know it the scary part is there may be no coming back from the damage we've done so far time to go back to the stone age 9. killer space rock it seems like the plot of a bad movie from the 90s and naughties but it's true many scientists are becoming increasingly worried that a large asteroid could impact the earth we've already had a close call in the tunguska event of 1908 a huge asteroid hurtled into the ground in a remote part of siberia which was the largest impact in recorded history the blast was so great that it flattened 80 million trees over an area of 830 square miles by meteor standards this guy was a little baby even so witnesses saw a fireball streak across the sky before erupting into a bright flash of blue light as bright as the sun the shock wave broke windows hundreds of miles away and knocked people off their feet and down onto the ground eight atomic frolic another likely scenario and one we're all familiar with is mass death via exposure to radioactive fallout as a result of the eventual nuclear war there's no point having the biggest stick in the playground if you're never going to use it and it's not just russia and the us that have nuke strike capability anymore it could be black market dirty bombs or the imagined insults of a certain north korean supreme leader but rest assured that someone will detonate a nuclear device somewhere eventually it's just a matter of time it's not the blast that'll kill most folks no it's the after effects acute radiation poisoning multiple cancers and the big one global sterility of the human race a generation unable to sire one to replace it seven got a mask this may hit close to home but deadly new viruses and bacteria are popping up every second year across the globe whether it's the zika virus ebola size swine or bird flu each time a new mega pathogen rears its ugly head the world collectively holds its breath and wonders hey will this be the one that finally wipes us out international flight is as commonplace as driving a car and the world is not as big as it used to be meaning the next wave of pandemic will hop countries and borders extremely quick and hold humanity at ransom with its lethal spread we may have dodged a bullet with covert 19 but in the wake of over a million dead worldwide could the next one be our last six the power of the fungi a shiitake mushroom may look unassuming and be mighty tasty but does its delicious exterior hide a dark and sinister grand plan new species of fungi are popping up all the time and while most molds and mushes are harmless there are a few that are absolutely devastating the chitrid fungus is wiping out american frogs left right and center the spores spread wide and far and the moist skin of our amphibian bodies is the perfect breeding ground for something not entirely animal but not a plant either the equivalent outbreak in the warm damp lungs of humans could prove catastrophic we know how to wipe out viruses bacteria and amoeba but surprisingly we know so little about fungi and less about treating them there is a possibility that your dinner could be eating you 5. biohazard it's not only mother nature that has a few microscopic tricks up her sleeve human beings are more than capable of genetically engineering a superbug through gene splicing with an accidentally leaked designer pathogen a real possibility of wiping us out sometimes being a little too clever doesn't pay off and although superbugs are made with the purposes of researching cures to modern disease the results of these experiments could be and have been weaponized in 2011 scientists in a lab successfully engineered a mutant strain of the dreaded h5n1 bird flu that was transmissible in ferret and transmitted as an airborne pathogen why because it's just one grumpy person having a bad day away from being released at a train station near you four robot uprising action and sci-fi buffs saw skynet take over the earth in the half dozen or so films in the terminator franchise and with cutting-edge research and artificial intelligence advancing every year it's only a matter of time before we get too big for our boots it's human nature to control and will the first true ai take after its makers and want to exert the same control on us the united nations has a blanket ban on killer robots that is unmanned automated machines of war even if the pilot is half a world away controlling the drone they have to be the one to pull the trigger scientists already think the singularity is near describing the point at which ai overtakes human intelligence three to be or not to be getting stung by a bee sucks and that little golden guy would happily lay down his life just to ruin your day but this is the same creature that is responsible for the food you eat pollination is critical for the reproduction of flowering plants which we love to eat think corn wheat rice all staples of the human diet the world over and vital to our survival the simple fact is if bees don't exist humans don't exist since 2006 the population of bees around the world has taken a sharp nosedive and no one really knows why whether it's pesticides disease or poor weather conditions caused by global warming one thing is for certain we didn't give the bees the respect they deserved true to their nature bees will absolutely take us down with them two game over in plain terms destruction of the earth the sun will eventually reach supernova as it comes to the end of its lifespan this is a scientific fact a huge blast that will take the earth out and disintegrate it to atoms and molecules the earth's core could grow cold leaving the earth with a weakened electromagnetic field causing a huge shift in conditions to which life could not adapt volcanic eruptions along every fault line of every tectonic plate obscuring the sun and cooling the earth to a barren lifeless rock humans playing around with the relativistic heavy iron collider in long island could finally create a stable strange lit it's a curious little subatomic particle containing a bunch of strange quarks which are heavier than normal matter it doesn't exist anywhere in the universe but it's theoretically possible to make one by squashing protons and neutrons together superhumanly hard the danger comes from the strangelet's ability to affect other atoms and cause other strangelets causing a cascading event that could transmogrify all the matter on earth into an army of other useless strangelets scary one all of the above there is a popular school of thought that it won't be any one of these events but likely a combination of multiple large-scale catastrophes that forms a snowball effect getting steadily worse until conditions on this earth are not suited to human survival a shift in climate may give rise to a new disease the ultimate pandemic extreme weather kills off bees and other pollinating insects causing the failure of crops and widespread starvation the next extinction level event may not be sudden and grandiose the most appropriate analogy to use would be that instead of being mauled by a bear mankind will be nibbled at slowly by rats if you enjoyed this article please give it a like and make sure you subscribe to with that
