You Asked For It | Mind Blowing Non CGI Space Images
what if i told you you had the opportunity to travel from one galaxy to the next capturing all the fascinating wonders of the universe since scientists at white sands missile range captured the first photo of space 75 years ago astronomers have been improving technology in order to grasp a better understanding of the universe today on fact nominal we are traveling amongst the septillion stars to uncover the mightiest wonders of the cosmos from the andromeda to the male's object the star that would not die about 170 years ago aydah karenae one of the brightest most massive stars in the milky way erupted with a titanic blast releasing almost as much energy as a supernova explosion and became at one point the second brightest star in the night sky somehow the star survived the great eruption and provided an intriguing mystery for astronomers we are now able to study light from the outburst that rebounded off interstellar dust and has only now reached earth it has been found that the original explosion created a huge 10 solar mass cloud of debris expanding 20 times faster than expected more than 20 million miles per hour or 32 million kilometers per hour fast enough to travel from earth to pluto in just a few days velocities that high are normally seen
in the aftermath of supernova explosions but not in events that leave a star intact in the case of eticaranase eruption some process must have produced a supernova-like shockwave that came just shy of the energy needed to destroy the star for now this stellar enigma is the mass of 100 suns and shines 5 million times brighter with two enormous symmetrical lobes of expanding debris to either side we should enjoy this beautiful star while we can as it will likely exhaust its nuclear fuel in the near future astronomically speaking and explode as a supernova a black hole's magnetic field at the center of the messier 87 galaxy 55 million light years away lies a black hole in 2019 a team of scientists observed the object using an array of telescopes around the globe called the event horizon telescope or eht they released the first ever image of a black hole which depicts the light surrounding its dark center almost like a blurry lava donut in 2021 we got a new polarized image of the black hole created using more data compiled by the telescopes which may look similar to the original image but gives new insight into this behemoth the new lines seen in the ring of light show the gravitational field of this supermassive object which in turn shows how it affects the material around it monasteros the unicorn on the next hot summer day just imagine what would happen if the sun suddenly grew 1 million times brighter popsicles would quickly melt sunscreen wouldn't work very well and you could actually fulfill the proverbial cooking of an egg on the sidewalk and that's just the beginning luckily our star doesn't misbehave this way however in 2002 we witnessed the strange occurrence by a star in the constellation monocerous the unicorn 20 000 light years from earth the star named v838 monoceratus or v838 mon grew very bright then cooled and faded away not in typical nova eruption fashion v8 38 has since been identified as a much newer class known as luminous red novae when studying its light echo a phenomenon common to rapidly brightening novae it gave unexpected results and even produced a light echo twice the size of jupiter astronomers and scientists continue to study the v838 and its light echo which has been captured by the hubble telescope many times these images show just how luminous and beautiful it truly is the celestial sea the hubble space telescope is one of the most impressive scientific tools ever created an amazing photo has been published commemorating the earth orbiting observatory's 30th birthday the portrait shows the giant red nebula ngc 2014 and its smaller blue neighbor ngc 2020 in the large magellanic cloud the milky way satellite galaxy located 163 000 light years away at the heart of ngc 2014 is a sea of bright stars each 10 to 20 times the mass of our sun the image was named the cosmic
reef because the nebulas resemble
an undersea world drifting just offshore the smaller ngc 2020 is an expensive blue huge structure erupting from a single central wolf riot star 200 000 times brighter than the sun this stunning image shows one of the most photogenic examples of a turbulent stellar nursery alone in space you've probably seen astronauts flow through space on thrillers like sandra bullock and george clooney's gravity what you might not know is that we have actually done so in real life this is a photo of nasa astronaut bruce mccandless untethered floating alone with the blackness of space behind him and the bright blue bulb of the earth below mccandless adventure was made possible by a nitrogen jetpack called the manned maneuvering unit he maxed out at 320 feet away from the challenger and made it back safely in an interview mccandless later said i was grossly over trained and was just anxious to get out there and fly once out there i felt very comfortable
but i got so cold my teeth were chattering after his iconic spacewalk in 1984 mccandless went on another shuttle mission in 1990 in which he helped deploy
the hubble space telescope
what is it although once called a planetary nebula in the past simply because old telescopes thought they were looking at a planet ngc 2022 is actually a star in the last stages of its life in the center of this nebulous
sphere of gas there is a dying star
after consuming its nuclear fuel it turned into a red giant discarding its outer layers into space in the center of the nebula you can still see what is left of the star where collapsing nucleus has started to heat up again and emit ultraviolet light which illuminates this beautiful nebula this object has the catalog mark ngc 2022 and is located in the constellation orion which is best visible from our
area during the winter evenings
the twin jet nebula the stunning photos of the twin jet nebula will show you just how awe-inspiring it truly is often known as the cosmic butterfly the twin jet nebula also goes by pnm2-9 the m in the name refers to rudolph minkowski who first discovered it in 1947.
the nebula lies 5560 light years away in the constellation ophiuchus upon closer inspection you will find that it seems to have glowing and expanding shells around it which is the result of the star ejecting its outer layers leading to a spectacular light show the wing-like shape of the nebula comes from the motion between the two stars of the same mass at the center of it astronomers have found that the nebula was created about 1200 years ago and is a relatively newer star than the other ones we commonly know look up it would be easy to open photoshop take a fantastic image of the moon and add the silhouette of the international space station to it piece of cake but that's not what nasa photographer bill ingles did he patiently calculated what it would take to capture the iss in transit across the moon and then carefully pulled off the rear feet if you look close you will see the tiny z-shaped dark spot near the upper right center we're used to seeing images taken from the space station astronauts often post them on social media but photos of the orbiting lab from earth are rarer and take much more preparation the iss only passes in front of the moon for a third of a second as it zips by at five miles per second or 29 000 kilometers per hour despite
the challenges people will continue to
capture these otherworldly images and we will continue to enjoy them with awe and wonder westerland one spectacular photo is from data collected by the alma telescope in chile combined with data from the hubble space telescope it shows a group of stars named westerland 1 which is one of the most massive known young star clusters in the milky way it's exciting to see the tales of material extending from the giant stars this phenomenon is similar to how comets get their famous and beautiful trademark tails the cluster is known to possess a large number of massive stars many of which are interesting and rare species which makes it of great interest and benefit to astronomers who want to understand the diverse stars in our galaxy so which one of these photos was the most amazing one for you tell us in the comments and if you learned something new hit the like button and subscribe to fact nominal for more awesome space articles like this
