20 MIND BLOWING Space Images From Hubble Telescope
ever since its launch back in 1990 the Hubble space telescope has given us some of the most breathtaking images of outer space we owe so much of what we know about the worlds beyond our planet thanks to this iconic telescope even with the launch of newer improved telescopes like the James Webb telescope Hubble remains one of a kind and still continues to wow us welcome to Science Reads and in today's article we will take a look through some of the most dazzling and awe-inspiring images of space from far flung galaxies to fascinating nebulae and everything in between all captured by the Hubble Space Telescope a bizarre super bubble was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope that had scientists and researchers scratching their heads the image shows the hydrogen gas bubble or gas cloud now known as n44 as it seemingly glows in the dark the complex structure is said to be located about 170 000 light years away from earth close to the more well-known galaxy called the Large Magellanic Cloud the bubble in the image appears in the upper portion of the giant gas cloud and has caused quite the stir as scientists try to figure out how exactly this structure was formed lying around 2100 light years away from earth in the constellation cygnus or the swan the veil nebula is actually the visible portion of the cygnus loop a supernova that was formed some 10 000 years ago after the death of a massive star Hubble re-released the original photo after observations were taken by its Wide Field Camera 3 instrument using 5 different filters the new image really brings
out the more finer details
and delicate filaments of ionized gas
and the result is absolutely stunning
undoubtedly one of the most iconic Hubble space telescope images of all time featuring the three tiers of gas and dust light years tall giving birth to new stars hidden in clouds of dust the pillars of creation in the eagle nebula had a distance of 6,500 light years away in the serpent's constellation these gaseous pillars made for a stunning portrait that became well loved after its initial release back in 1995 and continues to be a favorite to this day nasa's Hubble space telescope captured what is being called the portrait of the universe the image unlike any other boasts of ten thousand galaxies of various ages shapes and colors it is the deepest visible light image ever of the cosmos the blue and green colors in the image correspond to colors that can be seen by the human eye while the red represents infrared light revealing in shrouded galaxies the image required 800 exposures taken over the course of 400 Hubble orbits around the earth and it was definitely worth it what's prettier than a butterfly how about a butterfly in space NGC 6302 or the butterfly nebula is the bipolar planetary nebula situated 2,500 and 3,800 light years away in constellation scorpius with an estimated surface temperature of about 250,000 degrees its central dying star is what makes it burn exceptionally bright in ultraviolet light otherwise hidden by layers of dust
its wingspan is said to cover over
three light years and was captured in its full glory by the telescope's Wide Field Camera 3.
halloween might be over but it's always spooky season in space and this image captured by the Hubble space telescope goes on to prove just that the creepy piercing eyes of this ghost-like face actually happen to be the bright cores of two distant galaxies that are currently in the middle of a head-on collision the ring of stars around them forms the contours of the face and the dense clump of stars come together to make what looks like a nose and mouth this happens to be a rare event seeing the two galaxies collide head-on the only comfort here is knowing the ghost face looking down at us from space won't be around for very long once the galaxies merge the Hubble space telescope brilliantly captured Einstein's ring named after Albert Einstein who predicted that gravity could bend light way back in 1915. in the image you can see two galaxies that are around 3.4 billion light years away from earth warping and deflecting light from an even more distant galaxy behind them the faraway galaxy is actually a special kind with a gigantic black hole at its center known as a quasar the light from a quasar is so bright but its light is covered by the galaxies in front of it thus its image can be seen four times in the ring and once at the center telescopes in Einstein's time couldn't capture this rare phenomena but thanks to the Hubble space telescope we get to experience yet another wonder of space hoax object is the perfect example
of a galaxy within a galaxy
in the face on view we get from hubble's image of the nearly perfect ring galaxy we can clearly see how the hot blue stars pinwheel around the yellow nucleus of this unusual galaxy what's so mysterious about this galaxy is the gap that separates the two stellar populations which may contain clusters of stars that are too faint to see the entire galaxy is about 120 000 light years wide and just slightly larger than our own milky way galaxy in honor of Hubble's 27th anniversary astronomers used the iconic telescope to capture a straining portrait of two spiral galaxies right beside each other both galaxies are approximately 55 million light years away and reside in the constellation Coma Berenices in the virgo cluster along with nearly 2000 other galaxies
the on galaxy is called NGC 4302
and the other slightly angled galaxy is NGC 4298 both are abundant with young stars as they shine brilliantly alongside each other against the dark backdrop of space it also gives us an idea of what our milky way might look like to an outside observer essier one often called the crab nebula is one of the most interesting and well studied objects in astronomy the Hubble space telescope delivered yet again by providing the most magnificent and detailed view of the crab nebula ever with the help of its wfp c2 camera after being assembled from 24 individual exposures this supernova remnant is highly complex and extremely beautiful and is said to have a neutron star at its center that spins 30 times per second around its axis next we have what is perhaps one of the most debated images captured by the Hubble space telescope ever is it a dolphin is it a penguin with an egg in the stunning image we actually see two galaxies NGC 2936 and NGC 2937 colliding with each other forming what looks like a celestial penguin with a bright blob at the bottom almost resembling an egg many are convinced though that the spiral galaxy NGC 2936 resembles a dolphin together the pair is known as arp-142
lying in the constellation hydra
in this image from the Hubble space telescope we see what seems to be a giant cosmic bubble floating through space but the secret behind this is the star at its center that is spewing high-speed stellar wind out into space and thus creating a large bubble of gas around itself much like a balloon this bubble is being blown around by stellar wind earning it the name bubble nebula as the bubble shell
goes on expanding it makes the star
appear slightly off-center as seen in the image the majestic galaxy messier 104 or m-104 is sitting 28 million light years away in the constellation virgo is actually one of the largest mosaics ever assembled from Hubble observations the image shows the galaxy in all its glory its brilliant white bulbous core encircled by thick dust lanes which form the spiral structure of the galaxy at the core of this galaxy is said to be a massive black hole one look at
the image and its peculiar shape
and its way to tell why it has
earned the name sombrero galaxy
for every anniversary and milestone that the Hubble space telescope celebrates NASA and the ESA have a tradition of rewarding us with a brilliant image or two and it just so happens that for their 25th anniversary they released this image of the cluster Westerland 2 and its gorgeous surroundings the central region contains the star cluster and blends visible light data taken by the advanced camera for surveys as well as the wide field camera 3. it showcases
the cluster in all of its brilliance and abundance of stars to mark a quarter of a century of new discoveries images
and observations made by Hubble
another fan favorite from the Hubble images archive is the mighty Horsehead Nebula the Hubble space telescope captured the stunning image and gave us a rather unbridled look at one of the trickiest nebula to spot also known as Barnard 33 along with its companion the Flame Nebula it sits in Orion's belt the light gobbling nebula is made up of cold gas and dust and the signature shape is visible only because its silhouette obscures the light from the bright nebula behind it making for one majestic photo the nebulae NGC 2020 and NGC 2014 are a part of the large star-forming region in the region called the Large Magellanic Cloud together they are known for their immense beauty and are often dubbed as the cosmic reef it's almost like looking at an undersea world but in space the two young energetic stars illuminate against the dark of space along with their powerful winds and searing ultraviolet radiation this image too was released in celebration of the earth orbiting observatories 30 years in space that's all for today which was your favorite image captured by the Hubble Space Telescope let us know in the comments don't forget to smash that like button and subscribe to the channel so you don't miss another update thanks for reading, we'll see you next time
