 it carries on its own glory and lures us with its secrets that will steal our sleep welcome the Science Reads and here are yet another 10 space photos that will give you nightmares the death star is closer than you think a long time ago in a galaxy far far away this iconic sentence has been associated with a lot of science fiction fans who became interested in space after reading star wars for the first time people traveling faster than the speed of light exploring new alien worlds and battleships fighting in deep space have given storytelling a stage as big as it can get the whole universe and though we all cheered when the death star was destroyed we know it wasn't the last of it as more death stars have kept cropping up in sequels now imagine seeing a death star right now in our own galaxy no in our own solar system you must be thinking oh come on stop fooling around that can't be possible the death star isn't real honestly astronomers must have done the same mental acrobatics in 1980 when they managed to resolve the first images of Mimis a moon of Saturn thanks to the texture and hue of its surface accompanied by a massive crater of just the right shape to resemble the conclave disk of the super laser weapon images were taken at a particular angle making Mimis look like a bigger Death Star pretty much double in size of the fictional death star Mimis is 246 miles in diameter and has an uncanny resemblance to the fictional artificial cosmic body a large round crater called the herschel crater is the most standout feature of this moon and it also has a mountain inside this crater which is as tall as mount everest the peculiar combination of such den 10 pointy mountain inside it gives the crater an illusionary look of a concave dish and laser sticking out of it now before you say hey but what if the death star was based on Mimis that's not possible even though William Herschel discovered this moon back in 1789 we weren't able to take a proper picture of Mimis until 1980 three years after the release of the first star wars movie we had no idea until then what exactly Mimis and Herschel the creator named after Mimis's discoverer looks like since its initial discovery we have been able to take a closer look at the moon and we can say we are pretty positive that there are no Siths present on Mimis ready to obliterate us or maybe they are just waiting for the right time can you sleep at night knowing that we might have a super laser in our solar system which could destroy our planet in a matter of seconds a galactic witch just like star wars

 the idea of humanizing a cosmic body is as old as any mythology in human history but when guardians of the galaxy teased us with the idea of a cosmic god at the end a celestial like a god small g son the timing was quite eerily perfect for Hubble telescope to send us an image which resembled a woman with a pointy chin long crooked nose and a fading hat on top doesn't that description remind you of the wicked witch of the south from the wizard of oz because that's exactly what this nebula looks like formerly known as ic2118 in the constellation Orion the nebula was revealed to the general masses with its appropriate nickname witch head about 900 light years from our planet the nebula has shown substantial carbon monoxide emission that indicates the presence of molecular clouds and star formation in the nebula but until this nebula turns into a star we would like to warn you to not get lost in that part of the space if your dog is named toto martian fish in our last article about 10 space images that will give you nightmares we talked about a martian man statue light beams and stones that strongly resemble our idea of what an extraterrestrial spaceship might look like but seemingly mars is not done teasing our pareidolia and has now thrown a fish into the mix just to keep things going mars once had an ocean even bigger

 one cannot simply pass the whole October without buying a humongous pumpkin and carving it out to make a jack-o'-lantern and since 2014 it is known that the universe celebrates halloween with us on October 8 2014 nasa shared an uncanny image of our sun that made halloween for that year extra spooky the solar dynamic observatory captured a very interesting moment when active regions around our local star came together in a perfect way for all hallows eve combining to create the look of a jack-o-lantern the active regions are areas of greater light and energy that appear in SDO images to flame outward from the sun nasa shared this particular seasonally inspired image with the title pumpkin sun and it's easy to see how it got that name the light forms two eyes a nose and a wide jagged smiling mouth that makes it look like a cosmic pumpkin carver got a hold of the heavenly body it'd be awfully nice if our guardian son once more decides to treat us with the same trick on upcoming halloween when Jupiter found out about emotes in 1977 the movie close encounters of the third kind established music as the universal language for communicating with extraterrestrials however if that movie was made in present times we are pretty sure we would have used emojis to communicate with et lifeforms there is no doubt that the emoji is the new social language of current times and even earth's big brother jupiter agrees on that matter in 2017 citizen scientist Jason Major was processing images taken by nasa's Juno spacecraft when they came across a particular snap which may have you believe that Jupiter was perhaps trying to communicate with us the rotated image shows two storms that look like eyes and a wide mouth etched into the planet's swirling storm systems which makes Jupiter seem to have a grimacing expression like a celestial Edvard Munch painting

 Jupiter also resembled the grimace emoji every one of us can find in our smartphones and pcs the Juno spacecraft was launched on its mission to study Jupiter in 2011. in the case of this particular image the statement by nasa was Juno cam images aren't just for art and science sometimes they are processed to bring a chuckle however as Jupiter's expression was of

icon that has inspired many future astronomers astronauts and theoretical physicists to explore deep space and seek a future for humanity beyond earth this is why it is again quite eerie that in 2016 when the show was celebrating its 50th anniversary nasa stunned the world with the image of the show's iconic cruiser enterprises silhouette forming between two nebulae the space agency outlined the two most famous versions of the franchise's enterprise starship with the original series ship on the right and the next generation ship on the left with a little imagination and a line drawing overlay assist from the Spitzer folks it's easy to see how the nebulae formed the ships the one on the right matches the original series enterprise ncc 1701 while the one on the left matches the more streamlined next generation enterprise ncc 1701 d astronomically speaking it is interesting that the region pictured in the image falls within the disk of our milky way galaxy and displays two regions of star formation hidden behind a haze of dust when viewed in visible light we could dismiss this fun imagery as quite a coincidence but what if somebody in outer space is catching our transmissions and wants to tell us that it has found us moon or ufo in 2017 mimis the death star moon of Saturn wasn't the only satellite of the gas giant that made us wonder about extraterrestrial life's presence in our solar system a small moon named atlas had us anticipating as well atlas is not your conventional moon first it's not round and that's where the problem begins because this moon resembles more like the classic earth version of a retro style ufo piloted by aliens yes the very light that was featured on earlier episodes of the twilight zone the goofy and minuscule moon is just 19 miles or 30 kilometers across in comparison saturn's largest moon titan is 3 200 miles or 5150 kilometers across atlas has a distinctive central bulge in its more disc like shape leading nasa to give it the flying saucer moon nickname but until we land on its surface can we say for sure it's not a ufo disguised to look natural the hand of god a very young and powerful pulsar known as psr b1509-58 or b1509 is a small dense object that spans only 12 miles in diameter but is also responsible for the creation of a magnificent and gorgeous x-ray nebula that spans about 150 light years it is perhaps 1700 years old and is located 17,000 light years away from earth the pulsar is a rapidly spinning neutron star that is spewing energy out in the space around it to create complex and intriguing structures including one that resembles a large cosmic hat in the image processed by nasa's Chandra x-ray observatory the lowest energy x-rays are colored red the medium range is green and the most energetic ones are blue the combination of rapid rotation and ultra strong magnetic field makes b1509 one of the most powerful electromagnetic generators in the galaxy this generator drives an energetic wind of electrons and ions away from the neutron star as the electrons move through the magnetized nebula they radiate away their energy and create the elaborate nebula or the hand of god seen by chandra finger-like structures extend to the north apparently energizing knots of material in a neighboring gas cloud known as rcw89 the transfer of energy from the wind to these knots makes them glow brightly in x-rays one can only wonder what is it there in that gas cloud that has this hand reaching for the mark of wolf on mars a team at the university of arizona runs the high-rise camera on nasa's mars reconnaissance orbiter in 2019 the orbiter captured something very creepy that had the whole team interested and freaked out for days the image showed a new impact cluster and extending downhill from the craters new dark slope streaks what made the streak so interesting was that the revealed shape by avalanches somewhat resembled the shape of a wolf's head it was pretty much a mirror distorted version of house stark's banner from game of thrones which fashions a dire wolf's head the resemblance was uncanny and appeared like another key to the mysterious planet's past though it is nothing more than a coincidence can you sleep tonight without thinking once of the martian wolf butterfly effect fictional spaceships are not the only shapes hubble found while observing vivid and exemplary nebulae Hubble noticed something rather beautiful too when it was observed a two-lobe nebula blossoming outwards from a central star system jets of gas were extending in elongated bubbles this twinjet nebula gave Hubble a remarkable image in which it looks like a shimmering ethereal butterfly the 2015 picture released by the European space agency was the first clear picture of the twin jet nebula named pnm2-9 since its discovery in 1947.

 Scientists believe the lobes were formed just 1200 years ago the glowing and expanding shells of gas visible in this image represent the final stages of life for an old star of low to intermediate mass a close look at the image shows streams of blue colored material inside the lobes near the center these are violent twin jets streaming out into space at speeds over 1 million kilometers per hour a binary star system sits at the center of the nebula placing it into a classification known as bipolar nebulae it's one of many spectacular images captured by Hubble over the years who says every image has to be
