as fascinating as space is you got to admit it's kind of spooky the fact that there is so much about the universe that we do not know makes it all the more scary every time you look up at the sky and into the dark void it kind of makes you wonder just what could be out there welcome to fact nominal and today we will be exploring some creepy facts about space that you won't be able to unlearn so consider yourself warned number 10 meteors could strike earth at possibly any given time just when you thought about dealing with floods earthquakes and other natural disasters or an outbreak of a virus would be the most of your worries then let me tell you you're in for a great surprise not only are there huge meteors that could possibly strike the earth they could also happen at any time

 now that's a very unsettling thought

 though we would all love to live in a world where the forecast is cloudy with a chance of meatballs looks like it's more likely to rain meteors than you think in fact in 2013 a meteorite exploded over chileabinsk in russia and injured over 400 people this event happened out of nowhere and took everyone by surprise people argue that there was a single meteor while some say it was a meteor shower but either way it's pretty scary if you ask me so the next time you look up into the sky and take solace under the stars just remember there could be a meteor strike just waiting to happen number nine solar superstorms

 have you ever experienced the blackout well i have and let me just tell you that it is not the most fun experience though they are common in some parts of the world in more developed countries they are a rarity and can be quite unnerving robbing you of your sight and leaving you to fend for yourself in the darkness there are so many instances that could lead to a blackout whether deliberate or not but did you know that they can be caused by an event happening in space yep two words solar super storms as if good old wind storms or snow storms are not enough we also have to deal with solar super

 these super storms are more often referred to as coronal mass ejections and in 2012 one such storm tore through the earth's orbit and even ended up colliding with a stereo a spacecraft experts stated that had the storm occurred just a week earlier the after effects that the earth would have experienced could have been extremely devastating and a complete blackout across the globe would have been inevitable could you imagine waking up to complete darkness because of a storm happening in outer space and no one being able to do anything about it yikes number eight space is really smelly so besides already being creepy space also smells bad um yeah no thanks this isn't really the

 best news out there for all those space

 enthusiasts who would like to hop onto one of elon musk's spacecrafts and go live on mars imagine being already sensitive to the various smells on planet earth how much worse would it be in space for the people who wonder what the black void of space could actually smell like well the people who have been there had

 some have said it smells like a seared steak hot metal or even welding fumes that just makes it all the more terrifying with a sharp and distinct sulfurous and acidic odor we cannot see how it would be any fun to be visiting space as someone who is sensitive to even the slightest of smells it's a no from me number seven zero gravity can affect your mental and physical health you know i don't think we are grateful enough for gravity and the very thing that holds us all to planet earth i love gravity and while i have definitely had the occasional fantasy of floating around like astronauts do in movies i don't think i will be doing that anytime soon and neither will you after hearing this it is no secret that astronauts go through rigorous training and preparation before they are sent into outer space and even so it is done within a controlled environment but even then astronauts have actually had severe muscular atrophy after just about six weeks in space the kind of toll that space takes on the mind and body is not to be taken for granted so if you're lying awake in bed thinking about what it would be like well it's not as fun as you would think in fact post missions various astronauts have reported that they suffered tremendous anxiety depression and have had to turn to psychotherapy and psychoactive medications not only is space scary it does very scary and life-altering things to your body

 number six rogue planets what you thought you knew all the planets well guess again not only is space so huge and hard to study but scientists have now said that there are many rogue planets that are able to escape their parent galaxy and roam around through space these rogue planets are like those rebellious kids who just want to get away from their family and do their own thing we all know the feeling we get it as funny as that might be what's not funny is the fact that they are three times bigger than our planet or even 12 times the size of jupiter which is not the most comforting thought now because they are roaming through space it is quite possible they could just hit us at any time did i mention that they are traveling through space at about 30 million miles per hour yeah i highly doubt we will be able to dodge a huge rogue planet coming at us out of nowhere so good luck to us if that ever happens number five rogue black holes what's worse than a black hole they are scary consuming and we don't know nearly enough about them well make way for rogue black holes looks like planets are not the only rebellious ones of the galactic family but black holes seem to have a mind of their own too what's worse is that astronomers have even found one such rogue black hole within our very own galaxy just like the rogue planets it seems to be blessed with super speed and is traveling through space at a speed of 3 million miles per hour or 4.8 kilometers per hour oh and it gets worse this supermassive black hole is also able to devour everything in its way as it travels apparently everything in space comes

 down to eating up and devouring so

 let's just hope we don't happen to be

 on the menu for these rogue black holes

 number four we may never find alternative life forms aliens are spooky enough on their own for years now people have been speculating about them and looking forward to seeing them remember area 51 ufo sightings and strange occurrences have often been reported and attributed to alien activity but no one has been quite successful in ever completely proving it the fact that space is so vast and there are so many galaxies could possibly mean that there are extraterrestrial beings residing in places too far for us to reach it's also quite likely why they haven't been able to find us either as the universe continues to expand it's possible that we may never be successful in our search for alien life for some this might be very sad news but for me i sleep easy at night knowing there aren't any space creatures out there looking for me number three the sky will go dark forever are you afraid of the dark well sorry to say but there is some bad news for you the night sky that's usually beautifully adorned with stars and the moon might not always stay the same and we could possibly be looking at a future where the night sky is in perpetual darkness many scientists have been suggesting through studies that with the way the galaxies are growing apart and we are moving through space it is quite possible that in the future we may not be able to see any stars or have any form of light in the night sky as someone who loves to watch the stars this is very sad news and also extremely terrifying staring into the pitch black sky will only send chills down the spine and not the good kind number two galaxies can eat each other seems to me like space is just one giant horror movie cannibalism is horrifying enough but knowing that the galaxies in space can actually eat each other no that's a new level of gross a study conducted in the year 2003 showed that the larger galaxies actually grow in size by eating or gobbling up other smaller galaxies looks like survival of the fittest and the food chain are concepts that transcend beyond just what we see on earth call them cannibals of the galaxies or whatever you want but this is downright creepy technically scientists have argued that it's not eating but rather the galaxies fusing together
